Employees choose Athena Health Care Systems because they share our common goal of providing the best care to our residents. We, in turn, strive to provide the best care and work environment to our employees.

We create a welcoming work environment that allows you to grow your passion in healthcare. Whether a member of our nursing staff, therapy team, or any other crucial department, you matter to the residents, their families, and the Athena family.

Through staff appreciation events, Employee of the Month programs, and a positive company culture, we hope you find a lifelong career with Athena. Just ask our many employees with decades-long careers with us! While we work to provide the highest-quality care to hundreds of residents in our communities, we know that can’t be done without the passionate folks we employ across Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.

We also enjoy highlighting our team members and the work they do in our blog called Inside Athena!

Another important initiative at Athena is the Taking Care of Our Own Fund, which provides financial assistance to our employees who are undergoing active cancer treatments. Our managed centers and services host fundraisers throughout the year, like bake sales, raffles, and more efforts to support the fund and its important mission. Athena’s biggest yearly fundraiser is a family-friendly softball tournament held every August to bring our network together for a weekend of softball and fun.

We welcome you to join our family and see what’s awaiting you with Athena!

We know you are always looking ahead and so are we! Athena offers various opportunities for career advancement. For example, many of our Certified Nursing Assistants will pursue nursing degrees and continue their careers where they started it. It’s not uncommon to find someone in a supervisor or director role grown from within. You are also able to transfer within the Athena family and maintain your seniority. We like to give everyone the space to grow on a personal and professional level and reach their full potential.

Athena Health Care Systems’ centers provide a comprehensive orientation program for all new employees; both general orientation to their center and job-specific orientation. Our orientation programs are provided both virtually and in person and are designed to provide the new employee with the training and education needed to deliver the best in resident care and customer service to our residents and their families.

All mandatory state and federal requirements are met during initial employee orientation. These topics are presented to ensure employees provide quality care and understand the expectations of their role. Following orientation, a comprehensive review of needed skills/competencies is provided to ensure each employee performs their tasks at the highest level.

Since our founding in 1984, Athena Health Care Systems has encouraged and promoted a culture focused on developing and preserving diversity, equity, and inclusion for our residents and their families, and our team of caregivers. Athena believes that the diversity of our team allows for better care of all residents. Throughout our daily work, our patients, residents, and their families put their trust in our hands. By doing so, they deserve to always be treated with the utmost respect and compassion.

We embrace our employees’ differences in age, color, disability, ethnicity, family or marital status, gender identity or expression, language, national origin, physical and mental ability, race, religion, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, veteran status, and other characteristics that make our employees unique.

The collective sum of the individual differences such as life experiences, knowledge, beliefs, unique abilities, and talent that our employees invest in our centers and affiliates represents a significant part of our culture, reputation, and accomplishments.

All employees within the Athena network have a responsibility to always treat co-workers and their patients, residents, and families with dignity and respect. Employees who believe they have been subjected to or witnessed any kind of discrimination that conflicts with our mission should seek assistance from a supervisor, human resources, or their administrator.

Athena Health Care Systems complies with applicable Federal civil rights laws and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, disability, or sex.
